| #862 IN THAT HE LIVETH, HE LIVETH UNTO GOD ROM 6:9-10 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. >>There will never be a right understanding of the glorious significance of the resurrection of Christ until we understand His death. Our text says in V: 10 "For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God." >>Oh to rightly understand the unspeakable gift of the Father in giving His only begotten Son " that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life," JOH 3:16. GAL 1:3-5 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: 5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. >>To this end the Father gave His Son and to this end He gave Himself and to this end He was raised from the dead ACT 5:30-31 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. >>Scriptures clearly teach that we are saved by grace so what do we receive by the grace of God? TIT 2:11-14 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men [but to what end does he appear?], 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. >>Our text clearly teaches in its context that those who have any reason to rejoice in the resurrection of Christ must first die with Him before we will ever live with Him!! ROM 6:10-11 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. >>When we step into the waters of baptism we proclaim before God and the world that we have died unto sin as we are initiated into the service of our God. ROM 6:3-5 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: >>The evidence of this renewed life before God and the world is seen in the effect, which cannot be hidden. ROM 6:6-7 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. >>It is only those who have truly died with Christ that shall ever live with Him and have part in His resurrection. ROM 6:8-10 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him [as our text says,]: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. >>Death had dominion over Christ once; in that He gave Himself as our Surety for a debt we could not pay. 2CO 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. >>As our Surety Christ subjected Himself unto the power of death that He might overcome the power of death by His resurrection. ACT 2:23-24 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. >>Our Saviours death and resurrection was not only to appease the Fathers wrath upon sin but to break deaths dominion. >>Our text says, ROM 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. >>Those who have been baptized into the death of Christ by the baptism of the Holy Spirit are delivered from the dominion of sin. ROM 6:13-14 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. >>When our eye of faith is rightly fixed upon the blessed victory Christ has gained over death and the grave by His resurrection there is noting that could more excite our hearts unto holy desires and hatred for sin!!! ROM 1:3-4 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; 4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: >>What greater assurance could there be of our victory over the dominion of sin and over death than the resurrection of Christ? ACT 17:29-30 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. >>See the force of this assurance!!! Christ was crucified as a malefactor in the repute of the world BUT GOD VINDICARED HIM How? By His resurrection delivering Him and His bride from the dominion of death Our text says in context!! ROM 6:8-10 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. >>The claimed justification of the enemies of Christ to crucify Him was that He made Himself the Son of God the Saviour and Judge of the world Therefore, it is by His resurrection that He is declared to be the Son of God. ROM 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: >>Christs resurrection teaches the perfection of Christs atonement to abolish sin as our text says, ROM 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. >>The perfect life Faith meritorious death and the resurrection of the Captain of our Salvation is the foundation of our obedience of faith. 1PE 1:21-22 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: >>Our Holy Father has bestowed the honour upon His resurrected Son to "give repentance," ACT 5:31, quickening them unto newness of life changing their affections and desires to live unto God. >>Our text says, "For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God." >>Being raised, He dies no more Those who claim by baptism to be initiated into the service of the Captain of their salvation and still return unto their old sins with delight are well described in PRO 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. >>Their heart was never changed they were never transformed from a dog into a sheep True gospel repentance which is the gift of the grace Christ will produce a perpetual hatred for sin and a delight in doing His will PSA 1:1-2 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. >>The saints of God are often perplexed by their infirmities as the Apostle Paul said ROM 7:20-22 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: >>A man may well be perplexed with vain thoughts even in prayer and our most sacred meditations but those who continue in gross sins and can delight in then have never received the gift of repentance from our resurrected Lord nor the remission of sins. 2PE 2:20-22 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. >>This does not mean that there will be no new breaking forth of sin as we see in the Apostle Peter he had never yet learned the sin of self- reliancein the school of Christ See how our blessed School Master taught Him!! LUK 22:31-32 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat [this was not a return into old sin supposedly repented of but a trial sent by His Lord to prove him that he may grow in grace]: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. >>Our Saviours blessed school of following Him in the way of the cross does very often leave us as He did Hezekiah to prove him that he might know what was in his heart. DEU 8:2-3 And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. 3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. >>Satan knows our weaknesses and he baits every person with temptation that fits those fleshly affections but the Lord looks at the motives of the heart to prove gospel repentance. PSA 18:20-24 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me [Who is this talking? It is David!!! How can he speak of clean hands?]. 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. 22 For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. 23 I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity. 24 Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. >>See what the Lord told Davids son about him. 1KI 11:4-5 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. >>Spiritual life is a living unto God as Christ lived not unto Himself "Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long," PRO 23:17. ROM 14:7-9 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose ROM 6:9-10 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. |
