CHRIST RAISED UPON THE THRONE

ACT 2:29-31 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

>>Whereas Christ came in our human nature—not only to be our substitute—but also our example that we may take up our cross and follow Him—Therefore, He also abode by principles we are taught in Scripture.

PRO 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

>>Even as we find in the example of Joseph—the way to the throne was through the valley of humiliation—and so it was with the Lord Jesus Christ.

PHI 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

>>It was the Father’s reward for such humble obedience that raised Christ—not only from the grave—but unto the throne spoken of in our text.

PHI 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

>>Such exaltation was not only His reward for such humble obedience—but it was the glory of His rightful scepter from eternity.

JOH 17:4-5 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

>>There are so many teachings about what constitutes salvation—but the Lord Jesus clearly taught that our evidence that we have salvation is that our hearts bow before the Name of authority which the Father gave His Son as His reward for perfect obedience.

MAR 1:14-15 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

>>Our blessed, exalted King of kings never refuses any who "..repent, and believe the gospel" of the kingdom.

MAT 10:32-33 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

>>This word "confess" comes from the root word "logos" in the Greek which means "the moral precepts given by God."

>>Our blessed Saviour so beautifully reveals wherein we by our attitudes and actions confess His rightful Scepter before men—and how He will confess us before His Father in MAT 25:34-36 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

>>You and I will not understand how the KING of kings can confess before the Father—"Come, ye blessed of my Father" when we see how short we come of His glory.

>>But the KING who was raised by His Father to sit upon the throne of David says.

MAT 25:37-40 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

>>We need to understand that we are not redeemed from the wrath of God by good works—but we are redeemed from all iniquity—unto good works.

EPH 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

>>Our redemption is not only from the curse of the law—but also from all iniquity.

1PE 1:13-17 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

>>See the reason God’s Word gives for this public confession by our attitudes and actions of the Christ’s rightful Scepter

1PE 1:16-19 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear [or holy reverence for the moral precepts of the KING of kings]:

18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

>>Our holy reverence for the moral precepts of the KING of kings is not optional—This is the Father’s reward for Christ’s humble obedience, therefore God grants the grace to bow His Scepter.

HEB 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

>>When we become the recipients of this covenant of grace—we not only will come under Christ’s Scepter—but with the greatest delight.

ISA 51:11 Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

>>A significant part of our Saviour’s exaltation unto the throne spoken of in our text—is telling of His marvelous redeeming love—as we find recorded in PSA 149:1-6 Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.

4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

5 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.

6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand;

>>Christ’s intercession for His bride is also in His exalted state as KING of kings—as well as her Great High Priest.

HEB 7:24-25 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

>>As our Heavenly High Priest and King—the Lord Jesus Christ intercedes for His bride with a vested interest—obtained by the price He paid for her redemption.

JOH 17:9-10 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

>>The comfort and glory Christ prays for Himself—He also ministers unto His bride which has become ONE with Him.

JOH 17:20-23 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

>>Consequently our blessed Lord and Intercessor prays for His own vested interest in His bride as well as for her—inasmuch as His own glory, the glory of the Father, and the glory Holy Spirit are connected with the ultimate glory of every believer.

>>His intercession is for that spiritual oneness of Spirit—or mental disposition —as we bow to His Kingly Scepter.

JOH 14:15-16 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

>>This oneness which we have is not limited to the Holy Spirit dwelling in us—but the KING of kings Himself

ROM 8:10-11 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

>>See the blessed reasoning that accompanies the glorious privilege of Christ dwelling in you—It automatically is accompanied by the Spirit of Christ’s self-sacrificial love.

ROM 8:12-13 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

>>Our text so blessedly reveals God’s purpose in raising our Lord from the grave—because "He would raise up Christ to sit on [David’s] throne;

ACT 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

>>In the resurrection of Christ we have gained the victory over death.

1CO 15:55-57 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

>>Nothing we do in the way of good works has any merit in it—yet bowing under the rightful Scepter of Christ is rewarded.

1CO 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

>>To get our eye off the present circumstances we must look away unto our blessed Saviour who has said, JOH 6:39-40 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

>>Our text says of David, ACT 2:30-31 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
